What is this?
Thought Checker is a self-guided tool based on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) that helps you manage negative feelings by identifying and modifying the thoughts behind them. With practice, it can help you change how you feel by changing how you think.
How does it work?
You'll walk through a short guided process: describe a situation that caused you distress, identify the feelings and thoughts that came up, recognize common patterns of distorted thinking, and then practice reframing those thoughts into something more balanced and accurate. At the end, you'll revisit your feelings to see if anything has shifted.
Why does it help?
Our thoughts aren't always accurate reflections of reality. Often, our minds fall into predictable patterns — called cognitive distortions — that amplify negative emotions. By learning to spot these patterns and challenge them, you can reduce emotional distress over time. Research has found that cognitive interventions like these can improve mood and alleviate symptoms of depression, even on their own.
Keep in mind:
Think of your thoughts as hypotheses, not facts. The goal isn't to force positivity — it's to find a more accurate, balanced way of seeing the situation. This tool is for personal wellness and self-reflection, not a replacement for professional therapy.
